Rochester ranks 11th in the nation when it comes to child poverty. Today lawmakers will be discussing the problem in a town meeting setting. Rochester Mayor Bob Duffy and City School Superintendent Manuel Rivera will be just some of the local leaders speaking at the event sponsored by the Jewish Community Federation.
The state of New York has the 10th highest child poverty rate among states, and Rochester’s poverty rate is almost twice as high. 80% of Rochester City School District students are eligible for free or reduced-priced lunch based on family income
The meeting will be held at Temple Beth-El on Winton Road South, at 7:30 P.M. tonight. The event is open to the public.
