As end of the NTLA draws nearer to usher in a new set of lawmakers, report says members of that august body are expected to receive United States twelfth thousands dollars before the end of their tenure this Saturday.

This information, which has been published in Monrovia, has spread like wild fire, making many Liberians to wonder as to whether these lawmakers care about the plight of their citizens, especially at a time when the entire country is being faced with hardship when its citizens are crying here and there.

This amount, which is reportedly being placed in the pockets of these lawmakers following their end of duty at the capitol, worries many civil servants and other ordinary Liberians when civil servants spent their Christmas and New Year without pay for what they have worked.

When our reporter in Monrovia contacted the Ministry of Finance and the NTLA Comptroller they both denied and said it was customary that at the end of the tenure of each lawmaker they were entitled to receiving their benefit. But declined to confirm the amount in question.

Recently the President-Elect, Madam Sirleaf paid a one-day working visit at the capitol and promised that their request regarding their benefits would be looked into. It is not known if this amount being speculated about was the approval of the President-Elect.
