The Indian National Congress today called upon the UPA government to take steps to halve poverty during the Eleventh plan.
In the draft resolution on Economic Affairs at the 82nd AICC plenary the party said it was committed to its philosophy of poverty eradication (Garibi Hatao) and to address the many problems faced by the common man (Aam Admi).
The plenary called upon the government to launch a targeted programme to lift the population below poverty line in a time bound manner. It also called upon the government to ensure that the existing proportion of persons living below the poverty line was halved in the Eleventh plan.
