Mexico, Jul 11 (Prensa Latina) Some 58 million Latin American and Caribbean young people are currently living in poverty, and 21 million of them are indigenous, indicated the UN Population Fund´s office in Mexico.
Almost over one million of them live on less than one dollar a day and 27.2 million with less than two, stated a report from the organization, published on the occasion of the World Population Day.
Between 1990 and 2000, the unemployment rate increased for them from 17.9 percent to 23.2 percent, which is three times higher than that of adults.
Latin American and Caribbean youth also lack education on sexual and reproductive health, and their HIV-AIDS mortality rate is 2.9 deaths per each 100,000.
