[Nigeria] Pastor blames poverty on selfish leaders

from African News Dimension

With abundant natural and human resources God has endowed Nigeria with, its people have no reason to be poor but for the selfish interest of the nation’s leaders and politicians, said Pastor Olayiwola.

Pastor Peter Olayiwola of the Eternal Glory Bible Church, Iju in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State said this at the commissioning of the chapel of the church at Abule-Egba, Lagos.

According to him, the country is so blessed that if good leaders harness its resources, it would compete favourably with even the United States of America.

“There is no reason for poverty to pervade the land. The country is richly blessed with many mineral resources than America but some people are taking advantage of the resources to the detriment of the majority,” he said.

Olayiwola warned that any politicians who would not take the public interest above their parochial selfish interest should keep off 2007 because there would be divine punishment for them.

“Many politicians are greedy and have no love of the people and are just going to office to loot from the country’s coffer. They should repent or be consumed with the coming flaming fire of God,” he advised.

The pastor also took a swipe at religious leaders who he accused of “feeding fat on the ignorance of the people”, warning that the judgment day is at hand.

According to him, the open field revivals usually organised by some of the pastors are not acceptable to God because they are looking for cheap publicity and an avenue to make money.

“God is not happy with them since they know how to seek the face of God diligently and secretly if they truly love Him.” He added that those pastors claiming that there is peace in the land are fake.
