[UK] Rowling horrified by Edinburgh poverty gap

From Ireland On Line

Harry Potter author JK Rowling is disgusted by the financial abyss which exists between rich and poor people in her home city of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Rowling was so poor before rocketing to riches with her magical books, she struggled to provide for herself and her daughter Jessica while living in the city's Leith district.

Despite now being a millionaire, she is still horrified by the financial divide in the Scottish capital.

She says: "Violence, crime and addiction were part of everyday life in that part of Edinburgh.

"Yet, barely 10 minutes away was a different world, a world of cashmere and cream teas and the imposing facades of the institutions that make this city the fourth largest financial centre in Europe."
