The Commission has allocated an extra 58 million euro to fight three poverty-related diseases - HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
The Commission has given an extra 58 milllion euro to the Global Fund, which finances the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria and directs the resources to the areas of greatest need.
The Commission is the second largest contributor to the Global Fund after the United States. It has contributed a total of 432.5 million euros to the Global Fund since 2002.
EU policy on health, AIDS, population and development emphasises the link between poverty and poor health and recognises the importance of improved health for economic growth and development.
