The Gulu LC5 chairman, Norbert Mao, has said the north and eastern regions should unite and fight the economic and political imbalances that favour the central and western areas.
Mao stressed that the political upheavals in the country had left the two regions underdeveloped, with the majority of the people living in poverty and with low education standards.
"The north is no longer defined by tribe but by poverty and misery. I think the same applies to the east," Mao said.
He added that these unfavorable situations in the two regions continued to emerge because of the imbalance in the political power, which is dominated by the people from the west and central.
The Gulu chairman made these remarks last week while addressing the Mbale district council.
Mao was on a two-day tour of Mbale.
He hailed the district chairperson, Bernard Mujasi, for being a charismatic leader, committed to the delivery of service for his people than his political party, the NRM.
Mujasi and Mao agreed to fight Government policies that undermine development in their areas.
Mujasi criticised the Universal Primary Education programme, saying the Government had deliberately not committed enough funds to unable it operate successfully.
