ENUGU-AS part of efforts to alleviate poverty and youth unemployment among the people of Inyi Community in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, the traditional ruler of Obibi Kingdom, Igwe Mike Mberedeogu, has provided 310 motorcycles of different brands as well as cars for transport business to indigenes of the community.
The motorcycles popularly called Okada and the cars were distributed to the natives who are based at Inyi, Lagos, Enugu and Abuja by the philanthropists whose desire is to liberate his people from the bondage of poverty.
Speaking during a civic reception organized in honour of the royal father, Igwe Mberedeogu, who is the Obibi I of Obibi Kingdom, National President of Inyi Town Union, Professor Ernest Adibe, praised the determination of the monarch to eliminate poverty and improve on the lives of his subjects, especially the teeming number of youths, who before now were not gainfully employed.
He said that the gesture would definitely discourage the beneficiaries from getting involved in criminal activities and youth restiveness, which had become the order of the day in the South East.
Turning to the royal father, Professor Adibe said: “To enumerate the countless scholarships you have awarded for the education of our young men and women in institutions of learning will be to state the obvious. In deed you have touched the life of every indigene of Inyi in one way or the other. It is in recognition and appreciation of these qualities and achievements that you were bestowed with the traditional stool of Obibi Kingdom. It is in the same spirit that all the villages of Inyi assembled here to honour you.”
Adibe assured the royal father of the continued support and confidence of the people to enable him discharge his functions and move the community to an enviable heights just as he urged the Igwe to continue to extend his benevolence to all sectors of the society and to all villages in Inyi.
In his remarks at the occasion, Igwe Mberedeogu, thanked the people of the community for their support and pledged to continue to improve on the lives of his subjects.
The royal father, who is also an industrialists as well as the Managing Director of Super-Master Electronics brand, recalled that he had established the Anamike Business Assisted Scheme, which he said, was aimed at assisting young businessmen to grow, noting that 72 people have so far benefited from the scheme in the whole of Inyi.
He urged well-meaning indigenes of the area to use their wealth to better the lot of their people.
The State Governor, Sullivan Chime, who was also honoured at the occasion, however, promised that the community would benefit from the ongoing development of infrastructure in the rural areas and urged the people to live in peace.
He thanked the people of the area for the tremendous support given to him during the governorship election, assuring that the support would not go un-rewarded.
