Bafang(Upper Nkam)
The newly elected Mayor of the Bafang Rural Council, Kamaga Ngandjui Rene has been told to work hard to uplift Bafang town which is congested with clandestine motor parks dotted here and there. The Mayor was told to eradicate poverty and achieve sustainable economic growth for the population using the many resources of the council.
These appeals were made by the Upper Nkam SDO, Ivaha Diboua Samuel while installing Chief Kamga Nganjui Rene and his two deputies Mr Tchoili Roger and Mr Mormi II faya Jerome as first and second assistant mayors respectively on October 19Th 2007 at the Bafang ceremonial ground. According to Mr Ivaha Samuel, Bafang remains one of those rich councils in the West Province and the mayor should take advantage of these facilities to integrate and develop the health, education and infrastructure sectors for sustainable development.
The mayor was invited to approve programmes of roads maintenance, create road rehabilitation units in councils to take care of all earth roads in the council area to facilitate the transportation of cash crops from farms which remains the main stay of the population. The SDO insisted that the Mayor should draw up a budget to target developmental projects and carry out a strict inspection to ensure that these projects are properly carried out. He then warned that council revenue from taxes be properly collected and managed.
On the issue of birth, death, married certificates the SDO warned the newly installed executives not to issue out fake certificates because these documents have to do with the image of the nation. The new executives were called upon to carry out and inventory of all council assets, check the misuse of council equipment which has been in the past turned into private use. It should be recalled that Chief Kamga Nganjui is the paramount ruler of Bafang and has acted as interim mayor since the arrest and detention of Siyam Siewe the former mayor.
