Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne and Joss Stone are among the artists who are donating previously unreleased tracks to a compilation CD, "SERVE2" to benefit WHY (World Hunger Year).
The Boss and the Bard both donated live tracks -- "The Ghost of Tom Joad" as performed in Dublin by Springsteen and "The Ballad of Hollis Brown" performed by Dylan at Carnegie Hall in 1963 -- and Springsteen will offer a signature t-shirt and collectible pin featuring a drawing of one of his favorite guitars.
Other artists contributing include Citizen Cope, Brandi Carlile, Marc Broussard, O.A.R., Josh Rouse and KT Tunstall.
WHY is a non-profit that offers job training, education, after-school programs, microcredit and assistance to small farmers to combat hunger on a grassroots level by empowering people to help themselves. The organization was founded in 1975 by radio host Bill Ayres and the late singer-songwriter Harry Chapin.
The CD will be distributed by Hard Rock International, best known for its Hard Rock Cafes, hotels and casinos. It will be available for download Nov. 6 through www.hardrock.com or www.worldhungeryear.org.
Meanwhile, Springsteen's latest CD, "Magic," is at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, having fallen from the top spot this week. (Kid Rock's "Rock N Roll Jesus" is now No. 1.) Talk on the Boss' fan site, Backstreets.com, says there's enough material for Springsteen and the E Street Band to release another full-length album soon.
