THE Omukama of Bunyoro Solomon Iguru has blamed the biting poverty in his Kingdom to the poor road network.
He said murram roads that dominate the Obukama could not facilitate trade because they have a short life span which scares away prospective investors from the region.
Iguru said his subjects could not engage in serious agriculture since the Kingdom is cut off from markets.
He cited Muzizi river bridge that used to connect Bunyoro to Toro Kingdom that was swept away by floods during rainy seasons.
"All this is happening while the central government looks on," he said. He was at Karuziika Palace in Hoima Town Council recently , where he received scholarships from Namasagali University.
Iguru praised the Busoga based University for working towards uplifting education in Bunyoro Kingdom.
The University Director of planning David Wilson Musekura said the offer was intended to strengthen the brotherhood between Busoga Kingdom and Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom.
Musekura said the degree and diploma certificate scholarships would benefit students who have the required entry points to Namasagali.
He said the Kingdom would select the beneficiaries and send them to Namasagali to start their academic year soon.
He disclosed plans to open faculties of computer technology, agriculture and education in Kigumba Masindi.
