A Non Governmental Organisation, Action Aid International is to commit about N150 million towards poverty eradication programmes in selected communities in Nasarawa state for the next five year.
Executive director of Project Agape, another Non-Governmental Organisation based in Lafia, David Allu disclosed this at a media briefing in Lafia last weekend.
He noted that Action Aid which is working with Project Agape to eradicate poverty, had already committed about N54 million in the (PAP 1) project in the state between 2006 and 2007.
The executive director of the NGO who was speaking shortly after the inspection of projects executed by Project Agape in partnership with Action Aid gave a breakdown of the figures collect by Project Agape to be N28 million in 2006 and N26 million for 2007.
Allu explained that before he met with Action Aid he had thought that it was impossible to eradicate poverty; but that his thinking was different now having gone to the communities and seen what it takes to come up with programmes that would impact on the people.
In his remarks at the occasion, the Action Aid Country Director, Otive Igbuzor pointed out that after going round the communities, he had realized that government was not doing anything that would impact on the lives of the people in the communities.
