Students get award for poverty concert

from The Border Mail

TWO Melbourne university students have joined famed U2 frontman Bono and Midnight Oil’s Peter Garrett by winning an MTV video music award.

Daniel Adams and 2004 young australian of the year recipient Hugh Evans will collect the Free Your Mind award at the 2007 MTV Australia video music awards next month.

The duo created and successfully staged Aust-ralia’s first Make Poverty History concert in Melbourne last year, luring a bill of extraordinary talent including Bono and Eddie Vedder of Grammy award winning US rock group Pearl Jam.

Australian bands Jet, Hilltop Hoods and The John Butler Trio also performed.

“It’s really, really quite overwhelming,” said Mr Evans, 24, who is studying law and science at university.

“We just can’t believe the kind of company we are in and sometimes we just pinch ourselves and have to keep it real.”
