KLANG: Poverty need not be an obstacle to success, MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy said.

He said many individuals born to families living in poverty do excel and do well in their life.

“Living in Malaysia, golden opportunities are everywhere, thus, it is depended on the keenness and willingness of a person to work for it.

“No success comes easy including the achievements attained by the older generations,” he told a gathering at a dinner organised by fertiliser manufacturer, Twin Arrow Fertiliser, at Hokkien Association building here on Friday.

Citing an example, Chan said the managing director of Twin Arrow Fertiliser Datuk Lau Kuan Kam wasone of the most successful businessmen at a young age although he was not from a well to do family.

“No one should be afraid to dream. Only dreams can form ambitions which help to build strength that drives people tp work to achieve it,” he said.

Good values such as hard work, honest, self-reliance and good relationship with one another taught by ancestors thousands of years ago were still practical and useful in the present world, he said.

Emphasis on good relationship among people would make a person appreciate the importance of services for business besides quality and competitive products, he added.
