[Jamaica] Portia in Washington for IDB anti-poverty initiative

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller is in the United States where she is expected to participate in the launch of an initiative organized by the Inter-American Development Bank, IDB.

The initiative named Building Opportunities for the majority will be officially launched at a ceremony in Washington DC on Monday.

The programme seeks to promote economic opportunities in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Under the initiative, the IDB will partner with the private sector and civil society to bring the benefits of economic progress to persons living below or just above the poverty line.

While in Washington Mrs. Simpson Miller will hold talks with World Bank President, Paul Wolfowitz.

The Prime Minister is expected to return to Jamaica on Wednesday.

During her absence, Minister of Housing, Water, Transport and Works, Robert Pickersgill, will be in charge of the Government.
